Four men were responsible for the founding of the Santa Monica Rugby Club
in 1972. They were:

  • Hanley Thomas a passionate Welsh rugby supporter who was the
    President of the Santa Monica Soccer and Social Club, who were the
    original sponsors of the club. Hanley is now deceased.
  • Robert Thrussel a two sport letterman at UCLA in soccer and rugby,
    and a star player for the Santa Monica Soccer and Social Club.
  • Ronald Nisbet who was winding up a 30 year playing career in Scotland,
    France and the USA.
  • William McEnteer a former UCLA rugby player with deep roots in the
    Southern California Rugby community and a brilliant administrator.

These four men are now enshrined in the Hall of Fame which was inaugurated in 2003. To this date (2019) fifty-two notable members of the Club have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Each year two to four nominees are inducted into the Hall of Fame.
This illustrious group includes the afore-mentioned founders as well as:
Craig Sweeney (deceased), USA Eagles Captain
Brad Andrews, USA Eaglse Captain
Shawn Lipman, USA Eagles Captain
Tommy Smith, USA Eagles Captain
